Unwanted Violation

Sexual abuse is any contact or interaction (physical, visual, verbal or psychological) between two people (adolescents) and one is being used for the sexual stimulation of the perpetrator or any other person.

Sexual abuse. Just seeing those two words together are enough to make any sane person think something bad. Putting the words "sexual" and "abuse" together is like putting "poison" and "candy" in the same sentence, "poison candy." It makes something beautiful and special and turns it into something despicable and very wrong.  Sometimes it's hard to understand why people do such horrible things to each other, but sexual abuse is not just rape. It's doing things to someone that they do NOT consent to.

Story Time!

Bryan and Megan. Bryan, a musician loves to hang all over Megan. And why not? She's pretty and she's fun to hang with. She's popular with the guys, but she knows her boundaries. No sex before marriage. Easy as that. On the outside, Bryan seems like the average frustrated male- "I can't get no... satisfaction." However, in the bedroom is a different story. When he and Megan make out, Bryan just happens to slip under her shirt. When she protests, he only grabs her harder, hurting her. He keeps squeezing and grabbing until she stops protesting. Then he stops. One night, they were in his car and she was getting ready to leave. She turned to leave when he grabbed her hand and forced it down his pants. She immediately pulled it out and yelled at him. He simply replied, "but I need it from you! If you loved me, you'd do it!" She turned away for a moment, trying to make a decision...

What will Megan decide? It's very difficult these days to figure out what society's morals are. Sex? No sex? No sex in the champagne room? Things like this almost make it "ok" for guys to pressure girls into sex. To some guys, "no" really means "yes" and "yes" really means "right now." It's not just intercourse that constitutes sexual abuse. It's like what happened to Megan. Touching or being touched when you don't want to be, doing things you do not want to be doing. If a guy touches you or vice versa, that is considered a violation and a crime. "NO" means "NO," not "I'm playing hard to get, but eventually yes!" Being sexually abused is devastating. Being the victim sometimes makes you feel like you're the perpatrator; you feel just as guilty. It's difficult to come to terms with what happens, and it's even more difficult to accept and move on. Some rape victims kill themselves because they cannot deal with what has happened to them, even though they themselves have done nothing wrong! Sexual abuse is very serious and very damaging. The memories can last a lifetime and severely affect any future relationships. Sexual abuse not only rapes your body, but it rapes you mind, spirit, and heart as well; no part left unviolated. If someone you know is using you for their personal stimulation, it's time to find someone and talk to them. If a boyfriend is making you do oral sex, that is wrong and that is not love, no matter what he says. Forced oral "stuff" is legally known as "forced oral penetration," a major offense. If you are uncomfortable with what's going on physically in your relationship, it's time to talk to him or someone about what's going on.

Sexual abuse may not leave you pregnant with a child, but it will make you bear a lifetime of guilt and hard feelings. That's a promise it intends to keep.

NO Means NO!
